Evolution of Adaptive Behaviour in a Simulated Single-Celled Organism

چکیده
A model of a single-celled organism comprising two interrelated parts (a genome and metabolism) is presented. The genome encodes operons that specify enzymes for the metabolism. The artiicial metabolism regulates the genome and constructs proteins (among other processes). The structure of operons in our model is governed by a parallel genomic language. Protein construction is accomplished with an abstraction of mRNA and ribosomal machinery called \spiders". Adaptive behaviour occurs at two diierent levels within the model: in enzyme-catalysed reactions and by the regulation of genes. Adaptive behaviour is passed among individuals of a population via the evolution of genomes and the Lamarckian evolution of initial metabolic conditions. Results are given for evolving cells for two simple environments and the adaptive behaviour of four cells is examined.

Social life, evolution of intelligence, behaviour and human brain size
Social life is one of the most critical factors of the evolution of the behavior of non-human primates and humans. Several factors, such as an increase in brain size, adaptive modules, and grooming, are related to the complexities of social groups. Although some scientists have mentioned foraging as a rival hypothesis for the evolution of behavior, in this research, we tried to investigate the ...

Plasmodium of slime mould Physarum polycephalum is a large single celled organism visible unaided by the eye. This slime mould is capable of optimising the shape of its protoplasmic networks in spatial configurations of attractants and repellents. Such adaptive behaviour can be interpreted as computation. When exposed to attractants and repellents, Physarum changes patterns of its electrical ac...

Abstract Background and Aim: Considering the role of oxidative stress on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and changing lipid profiles, the antioxidant effect of plants and fruits on biochemical indicators was investigated. Thymol is a phenolic monoterpene that has antioxidant properties. According to the above, in this study, the effects of thymol on improving the symptoms of non-alcoholic fa...

The giant single-celled slime mould Physarum polycephalum exhibits complex morphological adaptation and amoeboid movement as it forages for food and may be seen as a minimal example of complex robotic behaviour. Swarm computation has previously been used to explore how spatio-temporal complexity can emerge from, and be distributed within, simple component parts and their interactions. Using a p...
